Dear audience members,
Due to the ongoing renovation of the Knights’ Hall, the concert has been moved to the Chapel of St Barbara (on the ground floor of Frýdek Castle). Due to the limited capacity of the new venue, two concerts will take place, at 18:00 and 19:30.
Bedřich Smetana (1824–1884): Czech Dances I, JB 1:107; T.112: Polka in F-sharp minor No. 1
Bedřich Smetana: Evening Songs, JB 1:116 (selection)
Leoš Janáček (1854–1928): Moravian Folk Poetry in Songs (selection)
Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904): Gypsy Songs, Op. 55, B. 104
Antonín Dvořák: Impromptu in D minor, B. 129
Franz Schubert (1797–1828): Die schöne Müllerin (The Fair Maid of the Mill), Op. 89 (selection)
Due to technical complications related to the change of venue, the concert will not be followed by a discussion with the artists.
The song recital by young baritone Lukáš Bařák, a soloist of the National Theatre, and piano virtuoso Marek Kozák, laureate of the Jiří Bělohlávek Prize and one of the most prominent Czech pianists of the new generation, will offer an intimate evening in the Chapel of St. Barbara of the Frýdek Castle, where poetry, lyricism, and pianistic virtuosity come together. The programme spans Central European music of the 19th century—from the intimate lyricism of Schubert through Smetana’s piano gems to the emotional immediacy of Dvořák’s Gypsy Songs and Janáček’s Moravian Folk Poetry in Songs. Bařák’s cultivated voice, clarity of diction, and sense for dramatic arc naturally merge with Kozák’s colourful, technically assured, and deeply lyrical piano playing.
