WIHANOVO KVARTETO & FRANTIŠÁK: CLARINET QUINTETS MOZART & WEBER

Programme

Leoš Janáček (1854–1928): String Quartet no. 1 after Leo Tolstoy’s „Kreutzer’s Sonata”, JW VII/8

Carl Maria von Weber (1786–1826): Clarinet Quintet in B flat major, Op. 34

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791): Clarinet Quintet in A major, KV 581

The Hus Congregation Hall in Stará Bělá offers chamber music a setting that enhances focus, silence, and inner intensity. It is here that the Wihan Quartet will meet clarinetist Igor Františák in a programme dedicated to the clarinet quintets of Mozart and Weber, complemented by Janáček’s dramatic string quartet The Kreutzer Sonata.

Mozart’s Quintet in A major presents an ideal of chamber balance: the clarinet is not a soloist above the ensemble, but an equal voice within a delicate web of strings, where lyricism, calm, and intimate poetry intertwine. Weber’s quintet brings virtuoso brilliance and Romantic tension to the evening, while Janáček opens a space for raw emotion and existential expression. In the acoustically sensitive and spiritually attuned space of the Hus Congregation Hall, every detail, colour, and even the silence between the notes comes to the fore. The concert presents chamber music as a dialogue—unassuming, profound, and personal, in which technical brilliance is transformed into genuine expression.
