Top-class players from the trombone and tuba sections of the Czech Philharmonic come together spontaneously beyond their regular professional duties to further cultivate their interpretative artistry in ensembles whose demands approach those of chamber music.
“Such ensembles are not unusual elsewhere in the world. Audiences and composers alike appreciate the rich, velvety sonority and, above all, the distinctly specific expressive quality of the collective playing of several trombones and a tuba. Many composers have written a number of original works specifically for such formations. The repertoire of the Czech Philharmonic Low Brass is remarkably broad and also includes well-known pieces that can be discovered in an interesting and previously unfamiliar light,” says the ensemble’s artistic director Robert Kozánek.
