Marek Švejkar

Marek Švejkar is the first Czech clarinet graduate from the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied in the classes of Philippe Berrod and Jérôme Comte. He also graduated from the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris under the guidance of Franck Amet and Paul Meyer. He graduated from both institutions with the highest distinction of Premier Prix. He completed his studies in the elite program of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Alessandro Carbonare. He is currently engaged in doctoral research at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava under the guidance of Karel Dohnal.

Marek has been invited many times to collaborate with orchestral and chamber ensembles, such as the Orchestre de Paris (conducted by Daniel Harding, Sakari Oramo, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Alain Altinoglu and others), Ensemble Intercontemporain (conducted by Matthias Pintscher, Bruno Mantovani and others), Opéra de Limoges or in chamber projects with soloists of the Karajan-Akademie Berlin Philharmonic, Paris IRCAM, subscription seasons of the Brno Philharmonic, South Bohemian Philharmonic and others. As a soloist, he has performed with the Czech Philharmonic (conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek), Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Hradec Králové Philharmonic, North Bohemian Philharmonic, Brno Contemporary Orchestra (Czech premiere of Domaines Pierre Boulez), Quasars Ensemble (Slovak premiere of Domaines Pierre Boulez), Academy of Chamber Music, Trio Bohémo, FAMA Quartet and others. Marek has also been invited to perform solo at prestigious international festivals and concert series, including the Prague Spring, the Český Krumlov International Festival, the Cairo Opera, concerts in Washington, D.C., and many others.

Already at such an early age, Marek has established cooperation with leading Czech publishers. His discography to date includes several titles. He participated in the creation of the album Ama Me by singer Eva Garajová, which was released in cooperation with the ArcoDiva publishing house. He released his debut solo album Connection – Années de pèlerinage, which was created in cooperation with the Czech Radio publishing house Radioservis, together with pianist Lenka Korecká, as part of the Year of Czech Music 2024, with three Czech premieres. All of Marek’s successes led to the establishment of cooperation with the prestigious Supraphon publishing house, with which he is now debuting the complete works of Luciano Berio and Pierre Boulez to mark the 100th anniversary of both composers. This cooperation has launched many future joint projects.

In the past, Marek has participated in many prestigious master classes and scholarship programs, such as the Sibelius Summer Academy (Finland) under the direction of Calogero Palermo and Harri Mäki, the Stavanger Chamber Music Academy (Norway) under the direction of Yehuda Gilad and Martin Fröst, the Apeldoorn Masterclass (Netherlands) under the direction of Charles Neidich. He is the winner of many international clarinet competitions and a scholarship holder of a number of foundations, such as the Stadler-Trier Music Foundation, the Fondation de France, the Mécénat Société Générale, ADAMI, the Fondation Legs Jabès, The Kellner Family Foundation, the Věra Třebická-Řivnáčová Foundation, the Život umělce Foundation and others. He is also an ambassador and artist for the world-famous French brand Vandoren.
