Czech saxophonist, pianist and composer Štěpán Flagar has been living in Austria since 2014, where he completed his bachelor’s degree in 2019 and his master’s degree in 2024 at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität. During his career so far, he has worked in various ensembles across various musical genres. His references include regular concert performances in Europe and beyond, as well as a number of awards (Jazz Fruit 2014, European Jazz Competition 2015, Anděl 2017, Krokus Jazz Festival ’14 ’15 ’16 ’21, Central European Jazz Competition 2018, Central European Jazz Showcase 2021, Jazzahead 2023, 2x NASOM, Öst.MusikFonds). In 2019, Štěpán Flagar was selected by Czech Radio as a member of the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Christoph Cech. In 2024 he received 3 nominations for the Austrian Jazz Award 2024. His current main projects include the trio HAEZZ, the band ‘Purple is the Color’ and the swing quartet ‘Hot Brew’. In March 2022 he premiered his 45-minute Saxophone Concerto no.1 in Vienna, which he performed as a soloist with the ABPU symphony orchestra. Currently, this very busy musician lives in Vienna and collaborates with a number of musicians and ensembles.
