The Permoník Male Chamber Choir was founded in 2013 by former members of the Permoník Concert Choir. Over eight years, its ranks have grown from just five to the current eighteen members. The choir is made up of young men aged 13 to 30, whose diversity in age certainly does not diminish their enthusiasm to perform for ever-wider audiences. The choir meets twice a week for rehearsals. Many members also sing in the mixed Friends of Singing Permoník Choir.
Although the Permoník Male Chamber Choir was formed relatively recently, it has already earned numerous international awards. It won first place at the Golden Voices of Montserrat competition in Spain, at Cracovia Cantans in Krakow, and made history by bringing home the Grand Prix from Georgia—the first in the choir studio’s history. The choir has also performed in South Korea, Germany, and Austria.
The choir’s repertoire is extensive, ranging from sacred music to folk songs and musical theatre melodies. A significant part of its repertoire consists of 20th- and 21st-century music, including works by Jan Vičar, Jan Bernátek, Emil Hradecký, and many others. Together with the Permoník Concert Choir, they occasionally form a mixed choir, whose repertoire focuses on sacred music from various periods (George Fridrich Handel, Sergei Rachmaninoff, as well as contemporary composers such as Kim André Arnesen, Eric Whitacre, and others). In addition to classical concerts, the Male Chamber Choir is regularly invited to perform at festive events and exhibition openings. Like other choirs in the studio, it also participates in educational concerts.
The choir is conducted by Karina Grimová, accompanied on piano by Jakub Šotkovský.
