Musica Florea

The Musica Florea ensemble was created in 1992 as one of the first significant acts in the field of stylistically informed interpretation of music in the Czech Republic. It was founded by cellist and conductor Marek Štryncl. The playing of original instruments or their copies based on the study of contemporary sources and aesthetics and the creative revival of forgotten interpretation styles and means form the essential basis of the ensemble’s activity and are at the same time a guarantee of its reputation.

The ensemble’s repertoire includes instrumental chamber music, secular and spiritual vocal-instrumental compositions, orchestral concerts as well as monumental symphonic, operatic and oratorical compositions from the beginnings of the Baroque to the 20th century.

The ensemble performs at important world festivals and collaborates with distinguished soloists and ensembles (e.g. Magdaléna Kožená, Phillipe Jaroussky, Nancy Argenta, Veronique Gens, Paul Badura – Skoda, Susanne Rydén, Orlando Consort, Les Pages et les Chantres du Center de Musique Baroque de Versailles, Le Poeme Harmonique, Boni Pueri). He received a number of prestigious awards (e.g. the highest rating of the French magazine Diapason for the recording of J. D. Zelenka’s Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis, Studio Matouš 1994; “Zlatá Harmonie 1997” for the best home recording of the year – Bach’s arias with M. Kožena, Polygram 1997; Cannes Classical Award – MIDEM  2003 for the recording of the coronation opera Sub olea pacis et palma virtutis by J. D. Zelenky, Supraphon 2001). In 2009, the ensemble received a diploma for the best interpretation of the works of J. S. Bach at the festival in Varaždin, Croatia.

Since 2002, Musica Florea has been organizing its own concert series with an emphasis on the presentation of newly discovered works and compositions that deserve a return to their interpretational originality.
