Jakub Šotkovský was born in Karviná. At the age of six, he chose the piano as his instrument and not long after that he began performing on concert and competition stages. Until the age of fifteen, he was a student at the Bedřich Smetana Elementary School of Arts in Karviná, in Halina Heinzová’s class, where he participated in a number of competitions such as: Karlovarská růžička, Prague Junior Note, Amadeus, Concours musical de France, Pro Bohemia, ZUŠ competitions and won important awards everywhere.
In 2009, he participated in the chamber music festival in Kansas City, USA. After completing elementary school, he was accepted to the Pardubice Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of MgA. Inna Tolmačová. After transferring to the Janáček Conservatory and Gymnasium in Ostrava, he studied with doc. MgA. Xenia Hranická, Ph.D. While studying at the conservatory, he participated in the Pro Bohemia competition (2013 – 2nd prize), the conservatory competition (2013 – 3rd prize), the International music competition Brussel (2015) and Beethoven’s Hradec (2016). He regularly participated in the holiday piano courses “Audaces fortuna iuvat” in Mikulov, where he attended solo piano and improvisation lessons. Since 2017, he has been studying at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava under the guidance of doc. Eliška Novotná.
Since September 2018, he has been working as a piano teacher and accompanist at the B. Smetana Elementary School of Arts in Karviná and since 2020 he has been an accompanist for four choirs of Permoník Karviná (Permoník Concert Choir, Permoník Male Chamber Choir, Permoník Youth Choir and Permoník Preparatory Choir). Since 2020, he has been an external player in the musical orchestra and accompanist for the Jiří Myron Theater in Ostrava.
