In 2002, he became the winner of the J. Brahms International Competition in Portschach, Austria. He has already won awards in many important competitions here and abroad, such as: 1st prize in the F. Chopin competition in Mariánské Lázně, 1st prize in the competition organized by HAMU (YAMAHA company scholarship), 2nd prize in the international competition in Gaillard in France. In New York, he received an award from the music society “Salon de Virtuosi”.
He has been playing the piano since he was three years old, when his extraordinary talent was discovered by an excellent teacher, Professor Zdena Janžurová. At the same time as the piano, he began studying the violin. Thanks to the art of playing the piano and the violin at the same time, he was chosen to play the role of little Mozart in the Oscar-winning film “Amadeus” directed by Miloš Forman.
He devoted himself to playing both instruments until he was admitted to the Prague Conservatory, where he decided to study piano only. He was accepted into the class of Professor Eva Boguniová. Throughout his studies, he also attended the class of Professor Martin Ballý. He continued at the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with docent Miroslav Langer. He finished his studies in 1999, as the most successful student.
In 2006, he was issued a solo CD by the company Multisonic with the support of the Czech Music Fund Foundation with works
J. Brahms, D. Scarlatti, M. Moszkovski. He recorded 7 CDs in the US for the contemporary Boston music composer Joseph Summer, released by Albany Records and Navona Records.
Sekera has visited prestigious stages as a solo and chamber player, especially in Vienna (Wien Konzerthaus, Musikverein), Washington (The Kennedy Center), Tokyo (Opera City Concert Hall) and many other cities around the world.
He regularly cooperates with Czech Radio. For the second time, he performed as a soloist with the FOK symphony orchestra under the direction of conductor Jiří Kout. His permanent artistic partners include violinist Josef Špaček, with whom he recorded a CD for Supraphon, mezzo-soprano Dagmar Pecková, and horn player Radek Baborák. In 2016, he made his debut in the Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum in Prague as part of the series “World Piano Works”. He performed at the R. Firkušné piano festival. In 2019, he toured Japan with the legendary cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and in the same year he performed as a soloist at the international festival in Karuizawa, Japan, where he performed the 2nd piano concerto of J. Brahms in B major, Op. 83.
